What do you do with old sketchbooks?

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 18, 2008, 10:01 PM
OK, I need some advice: my ex needs me to clear out the last of my stuff from her garage, but 90% is almost 20 years worth of old sketchbooks. Now, I KNOW I'm a notorious packrat by nature, but I don't know what to do with all of them!
What do you other artists do with your old sketchbooks once they're filled?

I've seen a lot of artists put them up for auction.... but personally, I'd hold onto them. They're a history of your artistic development, yah?

...or lack thereof...some of my older stuff looks better than my current stuff (like the stuff I showed to Disney before getting sidetracked by marriage). Still, that's the logic I always had with them...it's just a LOT of history to find room for, LOL

Well... I only have 4 years or so worth of books built up, so it's not a problem yet. I'd feel odd getting rid of them though...

When I hear someone say they give "110%" to whatever they're doing, it makes me feel good inside, because I know I'm not as big a moron as that person is.

scan them in or do what the artist tincrash did, before he tossed some of them he offered a few of his sketch books up for auction. its a good way to make some pocket money

I sacrifice them to Great Cthulhu.:iconcthulhuplz:

Seriously? I have yet to actually fill up a sketchbook.

In your position, I'd keep them, but I'm a total packrat as well (though I'm not sure how we would compare to each other).

Lessons of the past have a way of shaping the future. What you may find as old, and probably 'just history' may one day spark your interest again. I'd say keep the books and put them in a place where they are safely stored and not cluttering your living space, but are easily accessed. I only have about 10 years of books stocked up but every few weeks I go through some and actually end up finding a great idea I couldn't properly express when I first drew it. I say you should keep em, store em, and wait for the day when those ideas spark new creativity in you.
